Why-a-new-safeguarding-law-is-still-leaving-many-children-at-risk

In a recent article published on TES Magazine “Why a new safeguarding law is still leaving many children at risk”, Anne Longfield rightly highlights the urgent need for schools to be equipped with the right tools and resources to support children affected by domestic abuse. Operation Encompass is indeed a transformative initiative, but its success hinges on what happens after the notification—how schools respond and support those vulnerable children.

At Innovating Minds, we have long recognised this gap, which is why we developed the Healing Together programme. Designed specifically for children who have experienced domestic abuse, Healing Together provides schools with a trauma-informed, evidence-based intervention that is both accessible and practical for education settings.

The programme empowers school staff with the training and resources they need to deliver structured, therapeutic support to children aged 5–16. It’s not just about recognising trauma—it’s about responding to it in a way that fosters safety, emotional regulation, and healing. Healing Together is already being used in schools across the UK, helping to bridge the gap between Operational Encompass alerts and meaningful, ongoing support.

We echo Anne Longfield’s call for better resourcing and support for schools. But we also want to reassure educators, and safeguarding leads that evidence-based solutions like Healing Together are already available—and making a difference.
