It’s that time of year again when we’ve all had some well-deserved time off to celebrate the festive period and now life returns to ‘normal’. With a new year upon us, we often reflect and make resolutions and new goals to achieve. Trust me when I say, it’s a great feeling to achieve something you set out to; one of my personal goals for 2022 was to further my career and be part of a company that makes me feel inclusive.
I have now been with Innovating Minds for 9 months and I’m so glad I took the chance and applied when I did. It was one of those jobs that you see and think ‘I don’t think I’m going to get this’, but the other part of me thought ‘hey, why not, what have I got to lose?’. I’m here writing a blog post about it, so you can see how the story ended! A happy ending.
In my previous role as Young Person’s Advocate, I grasped a real understanding for the need of trauma-informed practitioners to effectively support children and young people. Providing direct interventions to survivors of child sexual exploitation, sexual assault and domestic abuse was a truly eye-opening experience for me and truly showed me the importance of providing safe spaces for children and young people.
My job at Innovating Minds is an empowering one! I am the Intervention Support Officer for the Healing Together programmes. I am the main point of contact for our trained facilitators, and I guide them on their journey to delivering the programme to best support the children and young people they work with. I enjoy a challenge and like being put to the test, so when my Line Manager asked me to strengthen and build the peer-to-peer support for facilitators, I jumped at the chance. I developed our Regional Network Meetings and Support Meetings as well as enhancing the 1:1 support. These meetings are an amazing opportunity for facilitators to connect with each other and learn. It’s also great for myself and the rest of the Innovating Minds team to meet and converse with facilitators on a personal level.
To come along to our network meetings, you can contact me on tyra@innovatingmindscic.com. We would love to see you there!
